Shannon Laya, Speech Pathologist
A summary of Shannon's qualifications and experience:
Shannon has multiple degrees! She completed a Master of Arts in Communicative Disorders (Specialisation: Speech Language Pathology) in Illinois, USA, in 2000. Prior to this she had completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, 1995. She is also a qualified ESL Teacher (since 2003). She is Certified Practicing Member of Speech Pathology Australia. Shannon has worked as a Speech Pathologist since 2000, first in USA in a variety of school settings including elementary, high school and special education working with children with language and literacy difficulties as well as behavioural and emotional issues. She then came to Perth in 2011 and has since worked in both public and private settings with roles in direct therapy services, project management and student supervision.
Shannon's special interests and passions:
Shannon has particular interests in assisting children with literacy and language difficulties and children who come from linguistically diverse backgrounds. She has extensive experience in these areas. She also has additional skills and qualifications in working with children with social, emotional and behavioural issues.
Reason for loving what you do:
When we asked Shannon why she enjoyed her role she said, "I have always liked being around children. Supporting kids to get the most from communication is highly rewarding".
