Maria Rosenius, Occupational Therapist
A summary of Maria's qualifications and experience:
Maria completed her degree in Occupational Therapy in 1980 at Curtin University. She has 38 years of experience as an OT, with almost all of that in Paediatrics!! She is a rare gem! Prior to joining us at Skillbuilders back in 2000 Maria provided services to children and families in 5 of the major services providers in Perth (including State Child Development Centre, Andrea Way Child Development Centre, Disability Services Commission, and Therapy Focus and Fremantle Hospital). She has also provided specialist services for Specific Learning Difficulties projects for the Education Department. Since joining us at Skillbuilders Maria has attended numerous conferences and courses to further extend her knowledge in all aspects of Paediatric OT.
Maria's special interests and passions:
Maria has developed specialist skills and knowledge in a range of areas, particularly assessment and treatment for children and teenagers with handwriting concerns. Maria is regularly involved in consultation with the Curriculum Council of WA and provides many of the assessments for Year 11 and 12 students.
Reason for loving what you do:
When we asked Maria the reason she loves her job she said, "Its always challenging and interesting to try to find reasons why children are having issues at school and then to develop a plan and intervention to help them overcome this in order to help them become more confident in their skills and to improve their learning and their life outcomes".
